Defuse meth cookers by making them angry at the government

Back in 2019, for some forgotten reason, I was reading about methamphetamine (“meth”) labs and ended up at the website of a company, “Appriss”, that brokers data about purchases of a well known precursor substance pseudoephedrine “PSE” sold over the counter at pharmacies and other places.

Automatic (?) truncation ruins a sale

Filtering through some long-ago crap at work some years ago, I found VHSes of subjects that were long ago filed and forgotten. One of them was entituled “The Attitude Virus”, meant to warn office workers about how they could ruin their work environment by bad attitudes that affect others. Made by CRM Films, here is the title screen:

CRM films still exists as CRM Learning, now bought by “Media Partners”, and they still make these sorts of things, though their website doesn’t seem to like the currently current (84.0) version of Firefox.

A name for a newish crime

A very malicious type of crime in the United States, and maybe elsewhere, is to telephone a false report of a crazed gunman at someone’s house to the emergency service dispatchers (9-1-1). The police then respond expecting a hostile attacker, and instead freak out the quiet lives at said house or worse.

A news report on the subject, that I can’t find now, mentioned that there is not a specific charge for this type of domestic terrorizm, so charges are usually “making a false report” or “obstructing government administration”.

In New York State, the Penal Law defines various crimes against the common government, like defrauding the government and corrupting the government. I propose that the manipulation of public employees or functions so they risk harming someone as they do their duty be made the crime of “weaponizing the government”.

Minor unwanted news + request

I am back from a very short visit for business and nonpleasure to another place.

My request is that someone would make one of those true-crime forensics TV shows showing how someone at the State Fair went and gave me this sore throat.

Question for the score writers

My nearest neighbors (common wall) have taken to listening to “true crime”/forensic detection shows at this time of night. I heard about someone named Bunchi (?) who was murdered by her husband in Missouri (?).

My question for persons who score these productions: how does one come up with incidental music/sounds that, without words or identifiable sounds, immediately identify the show as a crime documentary?

After some very minor celebrity on the former corners of the Internet, the TURDS!! file is updated with a transcription of a letter from the “Pinkerton’s National Detective Agency”. They were hired to, it seems, find out who wrote it. Details below, but scanning and posting came from this officiel blog. New York idea

I know that I have mentioned New York previously. I live in the State (but not the City). Recently, there was a police officer (in the City) killed whose name was Miosotis. This is also (spelled slightly differently) the name of a flower, the forget-me-not.

I don’t know if there is already a flower for the police forces and their dead, but this would be a perfect one, given the name and even the color (blue). If someone could breed a darker blue colored one, that would be perfect.

Antivirus idea

I had an idea when recently removing a (fortunately inactive) virus from my PC.

McMansions appearance against function: defense

In the United States at least, large cheaply built houses are commonly termed “McMansions”. The term appears to be a portmantle of “mansion” (a large house) and “McDonalds”, the fast food franchise.

Many of these McMansions are built to look castle-like with (fake) stonework, quoins and in some rare cases, battlements. I have not seen a moat yet.

Anyway, my comment to these styles is, “that’s stupid”. The construction of these houses isn’t enough to stop a normal burglar or home invader, much less a siege engine. If you’re into paranoia about your house, look into survivalist architecture. If that isn’t yet a thing, I expect it to be made one to fill the perceived need.

I wonder if @legallysociable has any thoughts on this?
