Rochester, Minnesota politics of 1876

The Minnesota Historic Society has put up some news papers (out of copyright) online for viewing. Here is one of them.

Two comments to get you started down this rabbit hole of history:

  1. The Republican Party caucus was held at the town jail!
  2. The women had to stand outside, and were only allowed to discuss the matter of the school commissioner.

However, I would like to note their (the MNHS’s) interesting desire to design their own icons. Instead of the usual, Microsoft-default “hand”, we have a very amateurish one, that I cannot for the life of me get a screen shot of! See it for yourself.

Anyone want to guess what this icon is for?

Answer: To show thumbnails of course.
