Microsoft Excel and the matrix/array error

To my complete surprize one day, I discovered that Excel does matrixes and matrix functions, even if they call them arrays.

This alone is noteworthy, however, one thing kept occurring and it was soon aggravating.

If you accidentally selected a cell that was part of the matrix calculation, the usual way of exiting (the Enter key) would throw this error:


This would get thrown up even if you just pressed to exit out of the cell. Besides being a modal dialog box, it also has two buttons, even though they appear to do the same thing. At the least I request that the two buttons be merged into one.

To repeat this error, do the following:

  1. Download the attacht .XLSX file and open it in Excel.
  2. Double click cell E12.
  3. Press .
