Arty Tuesday: Stars! Varo

I’ve always enjoyed what amounts to metaphor mixing in a visual way. Here we have stars being made or manufactured by a woman (?) in what looks like a fantasized rocket. I don’t know why the Moon is in a birdcage either, unless she’s feeding it from what she’s grinding up on the table?

Oddly this reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes Sunday artwork, though in a maybe Brueghel style of painting?

I was surprised to discover that the artist of this painting passed away in 1963. It looks so much more modern than that…to me anyway. Also, why is the moon in a birdcage?
